I found Pearls in the Shells

We visited my hubby's aunt and luckily there was a festival in her town and aunt ran a pojangmacha (a covered cart bar or a movable bar on a covered cart in which liquor and some simple side dishes are served).

Aunt served us some beef barbecue and shells. It was so yummy but that's not what I like the most about our visit to pojangmacha.

The shells are so big that there were pearls inside them.

Look what we've got in the shells. Wow! It's so amazing! It's my first time to see pearls in the shell. I feel like a mermaid on the ground while holding the pearls. They are small but I was so happy to have them. I kept looking at them while eating.

Unluckily, the one fell down and I couldn't find it anymore. That's really bad!

Jeju Dongmun Wet Market

One of the most interesting thing to do when travelling is to visit the markets specially when you travel out of the country. The reason is to know what people eat in that country, city or area if you just visit the other town. So, if you visit Jeju Island or Jejudo, don't forget to visit Jeju Dongmun Market. It is where you see different kinds of food specially seafoods.

It's the best place if you're looking for sea foods as presents to bring home for the family if you're just living in another city.

It's also fun to see how the vendors clean and cut to sell the rawfish. Here's one.

It's fun to see how fast they do it but it's also heartbreaking because the fish look pitiful.

But they also look yummy after that heartbreaking feeling. hehe..

If you can't eat raw fish, there are also restaurants inside where they serve different kinds of menu. Me and my hubby were craving for teokpokki, sundae and mandu so we went inside the small restaurant that we saw inside the market and had some. There were so many customers but we weren't satisfied with the food. It's just the same restaurant in Jejudo Island where they serve you and say goodbye. I mean it's not delicious and they don't care about it because they know that you are a traveler and will never come back again.

Well, if you visit Jejudo, it's better to eat raw than going to the restaurant where you will just feel upset and disappointed because of the food.

Gochuchang Village in Sunchang

Gochujang Village is located at Sunchang Eup Jeon Nam Province. I don't remember how many times I've been there. We sometimes go there not to see the beautiful attractions but also to buy different kinds of side dishes. It's true that the side dishes there are great! As you walk through the village, you'll see many people on the street calling some customers and grab you to the gate. You should get in because you can taste different kinds of side dishes made with gochujang (hot pepper paste). It's free to taste including some drinks like makgeolli, korean traditional alcohol or sikhyae, korean traditional drink made with rice.

When you visit Sunchang kochujang village, you'll see lots of big jars standing in every houses that makes us feel that we are traveling way back in time. The village has changed a lot since the last time that I've visited there. Here's the new sights to attract more tourists. The imitation kochu (pepper) tree. If you look closer, there are lots of red peppers hanging on the tree.

There are small houses decorated with hot peppers.

And lots of jars used to preserve gochujang.

Lotteria

Do you think it will refrain me from eating hamburger because of the Mc Donald issue? Of course not! There's also a Korean Fast Food Company like Mc Do and it's called Lotteria.

My hubby met his friend and on his way home, he dropped by to Lotteria and brought this for me. There's a newly opened Mc Do near my place and it always attracts me to visit there whenever I passed by. But I tried not to but of course I can't deny that I'm also craving for a hamburger. Instead of going to Mc Do, I have to replace it with Lotteria. Btw, Lotteria has delicious hamburgers. Try their bulgogi hamburger, it's delicious!

I suddenly remember that I also saw Lotteria in Thailand and Vietnam. I was surprised!

Black Day

It sounds unusual for you but today is a Black Day here in Korea. Korean celebrates this day by eating Jajangmyeon (Black noodles). It is a day for singles who don't have boyfriends/girlfriends. As what I always say, Korea has the Days of Love that are always celebrated every 14th day of the month. February 14th is for lovers where women/ladies give chocolates to men and March 14th is the Candy day. A day where men give candies to women. After the two celebrations for lovers, now it's time for the singles. Those who don't have partners eat black food.

I heard that they serve Black noodles in some elementary school today. Instead of rice for lunch, they served black noodles. Are they sure that some of them don't have any boyfriends of girlfriends? Well, let's not talk about this single thing because i'm also craving for jajangmyeon now. If the samgyeopsal restaurants made money last Samsam Day, then it's Chinese restaurant's turn this time.

New fruits in Korea

Oh boy! What happened to me! I couldn't update my blog and I feel sorry for not visiting you for a long time guys.

Btw, while we were having lunch, I saw this program on tv that there are new fruits that grow in Jejudo. One of them is like soursop but I'm not sure about that because they showed that people were eating them unripe. I mean they were still hard when they harvested them and ate. Another fruits are dragon fruits.

I remember when my friend told me that foreigners who got married to Korean farmers are carrying some seeds from their countries. They hid the seeds carefully in their luggage and they grow here in Korea. So, I guess those soursop fruits came from the Philippines and dragon fruits are from Vietnam. I saw lots of dragon fruits when I visited Vietnam. Jejudo is a hot area so tropical fruits like pineapples and bananas grow there and now the soursops and dragon fruits? Wow!~

Sunchang Gochujang Village

Last Saturday, my mother in law brought some kimchi. She stayed here until dark. Before she left she said that she wanted to go out to get some fresh air. When i asked where she wanted to go, she said she doesn't have anything in mind so i suddenly thought of Sunchang. I know she would like it because i've been there once with my hubby.

The next day, i got up early to make kimbap, prepared snacks and we went to Sunchang Village. Sunchang's claim to fame is its red pepper paste or gochujang, which is supposed to be distinct from other recipes. The governor of the county puts his personal seal of approval on it to make it authentic Sunchang Gochujang.

Here's the village.

Most people (if not all) live there are selling fermented food made of gochujang. As we enter the place, we see big pots in every houses.

Then hajuma grab us to the store and told us to have a taste of their delicacies.

Although we didn't have any plan to buy but after tasting it, we came out carrying this deodeog and mu u.

Podobat (Grapes Plantation)

Koreans usually (if not always) have fruits after meal. Hubby's favorite fruits are peaches and grapes but he doesn't like gobong or the green ones.

Last month when i went to the market, i saw hubby's favorite grapes but i didn't buy any because they cost an arm and a leg. Maybe, because it was their first time to appear in the market. I told hubby about them and he said we need to go to Podobat (grapes plantation) because it is where we can buy cheaper and fresh grapes.

Although it was raining, the rain didn't bother us.

We went to Podobat in Goseo....

And bought this.

Mogpo

As what i have told you before, i have lots of pictures stocked in my digicam but couldn't blog about them because my computer was broken down. Now let me tell you about Mogpo although i don't have enough pictures to share.

I've been to Mogpo many times and saw the beauty of the place but that was before i entered to the blogging world. One time, when hubby and i visited my mother in law, we saw her laying down with aunt. They looked very bored so we invited them to go out. We've decided to go to Mogpo because hubby wanted to eat raw fish.

On the way to Mogpo, we dropped by to aunt's house so we couldn't wander the place because we didn't have enough time. But here are some pictures on the way to Mogpo.

Our plan is to eat raw fish but aunt said that it wasn't the right time to eat raw fish because it was still summer so we ended up eating duck barbecue. Yes, it's a duck. Actually hubby doesn't like eating ducks but because we were with the old people so we have to because they said it's good for our health. Well, here are the pictures.
