Yahooo! It's Raining

Most Koreans like rain. They think it's very romantic to walk in the rain. My husband has been for rain for a long time not only because of the hot weather but also because he really loves rain. He likes walking in the rain with umbrella. It's not only him who likes rain but also my co-workers.

It's strange this summer because it didn't rain much and today is the day that my hubby has been waiting. He was so happy when he woke up in the morning raining. The weather forecast always delivered the wrong news when it says that it would rain but it didn't for a long time. But today, the weather forecast was right. It really rained. It was really hot for the past few days and I heard lots of Korean complained about the hot weather. It even showed in the news that some of the trees died and dying in some other cities. Me who has lived in hot country never complained about the hot weather in my country, but here, I can say that it was really hot. Even when you just walked for a few distance, you will sweat a lot.

Anyway, it has been raining since early morning so it's cool now and my hubby is so happy to see the rain falling from the sky. We live on the highest floor of the building and once in a while, he looks out and see the rain falls.

In my case, I hate rain. I hate walking in the rain and taking an umbrella bothers me. Luckily, it's weekend today and there's no work so it's great to stay home in the rain.

Spring Rain in Jeju

After winter, spring comes. We know that spring is just around the corner when it rains. It's what they called spring rain or "Beom bi" in Korean. Jejudo island has a very good weather. It's not hot in summer and it's not cold in winter compare to other cities in Korea. In summer, the temperature doesn't exceed to 30 degrees celcius and in winter, there's no negative or minus degree celcius. Last night, while watching a weather forecast, the newscaster said that the rain yesterday was a beom-bi or spring rain. Wow! Is that mean that spring is coming soon? Wow, that's why it's not too cold today. I can't wait for spring to come. I hope I can quit my job soon so I can go out and visit all around Jeju again before we leave the Island.

Speaking of quitting, I was about to tell my boss again that I would just work here until next week. My co-workers are worried that they have to do my job. They said it's a big burden for them. They don't have the guts to do my work specially when it comes to account, receiving phone calls and computer works.

I feel so sorry for them but I have to quit or else my hubby would get angry with me.

Too Windy Jeju

It's too windy again. No wonder why Jeju Island calls the Windy Island. It winds almost all year round. I live on the second floor of a lodge and when I go out, the wind blows me that I almost fly away. I live near the beach so it's more windy here than some other places in Jeju. It's not the snow that I complain about here. It's the wind. It doesn't snow much or when it snows, it melts before it landed on the ground. But it's too windy that you almost fall on the ground. hehe...

It's too windy now that some travelers or tourists couldn't come to Jeju because the ships or boats coming here were canceled. When I look out, the waves look beautiful but scary at the same time. Well, Jeju is a beautiful place but the wind sometimes bother me in winter but it's great in summer because it's not hot. You don't need an electric fan. Just go out and feel the blows of the wind.

A visitor coming

The weather is not that bad. It's warmer than yesterday. I hope there will be a great weather next week because I have a visitor coming on Monday. My brother in law is coming to visit us. He's coming alone and he said he would travel around the Island. He said he would rent a motorcycle instead of a car. My hubby said that maybe he won't sleep in our home because he will move from one place to another. Wow~ I think it's better but not in cold weather. I told my hubby to just guide him and show some famous attractions in Jeju but he said it's better to let my brother in law what he wants. Maybe he wants to be alone and it's best for him to relieve stress. Well, I guess so but I feel uncomfortable to let him do that when he can just stay in our lodge and use my hubby's car.

Anyway, it's my brother in law's choice but I will let him know about my feelings and it's up to him what he wants because I also want to respect his feelings.

Saehae Bok Manhi Padeuseyo

Saehae Bok Manhi Padeuseyo! It's Chinese New Year! It has been snowing since I woke up this morning. Wow! It's unusual to see much snow like this in Jejudo. It's a kind of presents for children on this holiday season. Children must be happy to see snow even when it's very cold. It's freezing and it's negative degree celsius today. But I'm sure children prefer to play in the snow freezing than to stay in a warm room doing nothing.

I must be happy too because it's holiday but I'm working now. I'm at work but I have nothing to do. Well, at least I'm present and isn't it great to be at work without anything to do? hehe...I can work every holiday if it's always like this. Doing nothing and just blogging. hehehe...

The Cold Weather is Killing Me

It's hard to wake up in the morning. It's hard to walk to work so I have to disturb my hubby to take and pick me up from work. I can't work hard and I can't do any exercise I think I'm gaining weight because I always lie down and eat. Who cares? I do care! I don't wanna gain weight. I don't wanna lose my job even when my hubby always tells me to quit and I don't wanna disturb my busy hubby specially in the morning while he sleeps and I need to wake him up to give me a ride to work because I'm getting late. Ahhhh.. It's all because of the weather and this cold weather is killing me. I wish that spring will come soon but too bad that I have to wait several months more. I'm tired of counting the days to wait for spring.

Rain, rain, go away

It's raining again. It rained a few days ago and I thought that was the last rain in fall season. But when I woke up this morning, it was cloudy and the rain drops before I left home. It's good that it's not windy although it's raining so it's not so cold. It's dark now and it makes me feel sleepy. It's really a great time to sleep or lie down on the sofa while watching TV or reading books. Ahhh, too bad that I have work today. Luckily, my boss is not here so here I am blogging or else I will fall asleep.

Do you like rainy season? Well, I don't! It makes me sleepy and I hate carrying an umbrella. I even don't wanna look wet. But do you know that most Koreans love rain? My hubby is one of them. He said it's so romantic to walk in the rain. Hmmm... I think so but I think it's more romantic if you stay home with your loveone watching TV while drinking hot coffee. What do you think? Which one do you prefer?

Seawaves in Jeju Island

There's a typhoon today called Muipa. It's scary because of heavy rain and strong wind. Luckily, it's Sunday and there's no work. My hubby invited me to go out and see the waves. We drove by the sea and sometimes stopped by to watched the seawaves. It's cool. It's another memorable experience here in Jeju Island.















We had fun watching the seawaves but we decided to go home because it was too windy. On our way home, we couldn't see the road well so the cars moved so slow. It was dangerous and thanks God because we arrived home safely.

The typhoon Muipa is still here and according to the news the strongest wind and rain will be at 3p.m. this afternoon. I just hope that it won't make any victims and it will leave peacefully.

It's Freezing

I was going to the library to return the books that I have borrowed. I thought it was hot because the sun was so bright. I was wearing thin clothes and put on a coat and took an umbrella. But when I walked out from the elevator, oh gosh, it was too cold and windy. It was freezing even when the sun was shining. I couldn't endure the cold so I went back home to change my clothes and leave the umbrella. I also put on a scarf. I can't imagine myself wearing a scarf in March. I though spring is coming because I can see some buds on some trees.

I hope the season will be changed soon. I can't wait to see flowers and feel the warmth of spring.

Korean Weather

Let's talk about Korean weather again because the season already changed. It's fall now and it's getting colder everyday. It's too cold specially in the morning and at night. But it's warm in the afternoon because the sun shines all day. I'm starting to hate the weather again because it's getting colder. How many times did I say that I don't like cold weather? And I will say many times more so that you can know how I really hate it. I always try to accept this kind of weather but it's not that easy. But I know someday, I can enjoy it too. What do you think?

I'm totally opposite with my hubby because he likes cold weather. He hates hot weather that if you're beside him, you can always hear him complain about the hot weather.

Went Camping on Chuseok

Most Koreans visit their families on Chuseok but me and my hubby have decided to relax on that day. My in laws live very far from us and on special holidays like this, it takes us a day to travel to their hometown. So I called siomoni (my mother in law) and Hyeongnim (sister in law) and said that we couldn't go there on that day. So on Chuseok me and my hubby went camping.

First, my hubby called and asked if the camping sites are open on Chuseok and if there are campers. And yes they are open but not many people go camping on this special occasion. There were 2 tents set up when we arrived there. One for the couple with two kids and another for ajassis who were drinking soju. I think they are having reunion and they are spending it at the camp site. Too bad because people went there to relax but they were too noisy so one family left. After few hours, we left too. Luckily, I got some pictures to share so hang on.

On our way to camp site. The weather forecast said that it would rain but we still hit the road.




And that's our tent. The other one was the old men's. There was another tent set on the ground. Just next to the deck area but at least they can't hear much noise unlike us.


Here's the bathroom. Not too many people so it was clean.


And the washing area. It's where we can wash the dishes.


And the food. Ohh, there's a lot of food. That's supposed to be until the next day but we couldn't stay the night there.


Before it's too late, we decided to go to the office and get refund. We complained about the noise made by the drunk ajassis so they talked and warned them but we still chose to leave. They gave the money back.


Next to the entrance were these beautiful houses. I just saw them when my hubby was talking to the manager.


We decided to leave and on our way home, it rained a lot. Well, everything happens with reasons so we were not disappointed at all.

My Chuseok Day

Oh yes, it's still holiday here. It's a long vacation. There was heavy traffic from Monday. Our 15 minutes drive from work to home took us almost an hour. Even when there were many traffic officers, they couldn't stop the traffic.

Holiday started on Tuesday and we were supposed to visit my in laws but my hubby decided to go camping instead. We left in the afternoon because we woke up at noon. There weren't many people at the camping site. Only three tents were set up including ours. Before dark, one of the campers decided to leave and a few hours later, we left too. The reason was because of the drunk ajassi (old men). There were too noisy. We went there to relax and get rest but we couldn't endure their noise so we went to the office and got refund the money that we paid for the deck and entrance fee. The administrator warned the ajassis because new campers came. At first they were setting up the tent on the deck area but before we left they moved to another area. They chose to set the tent on the ground next to the deck area because of the noise.

It rained a lot while we were on our way home. We knew that it would rain so I think it's a good choice to go home. Actually, it flooded the other part of the country including Seoul. There was heavy rain and flood in some area during Chuseok.

Korean's Health Food in the Summer

There are lots of tiems in the summer season when you lose your appetite, you feel fatigued, and you lose your energy. Thus, Koreans try to restore their enegy by eating foods that are believed to be helpful to that end, and typical example would be samgyetang. Samgyetang is made by stuffing a young chicken with ginseng, garlic, jujubes, and glutinous rice and cooked under a slow boil. Chicken is high in protein so is nutritious, and young chicken is more so. Ginseng is a widely recognized restorative good for bringing back your summer energy and dealing with fatigue. Once they have had samgyetang in the hottest summer and perspired as result, Korean forget the heat and have vigor restored. Samgyetang is neither hot nor salty, so meets well with foreigners' taste.


A refreshing bowl of noodles is always popular in summer. Mulnaengmyeon is famous in the summer but kongguksu is one type of noodle dish for the summer months, and is made of noodles (guksu) in soybean (kong), which is ground and made into a juice before the noodles are added. It is often eaten with a little ice in it as if it were water. The soybean soup is heavy and has a savory and simple taste. You can easily find yourself fatigued if you lack protein, and since kongguksu is rich in vegetable protein, it is perfect for the sweaty summer months.



Everyone drinks a lot when it's hot outside, and if you care about your health you should drink plum tea (maesilcha) instead of carbonated drinks. Measil, a variety of plum are used in wine, jam, juice and tea, but the easiest way to enjoy them are as a cold tea, measilchat. Maesil are good for recovering from fatigue and are help smoothing going for the intestines and stomach. An increasing number of people are drinking maesilcha or dessert, and it is specially popular in summer.

Korea's Four Seasons

In spring, you see a rich range of pretty flowers bloom, including azaleas, forsythias, and the famous cherry blossoms. March is a little bit chilly, but warm weather continues through April and May.

It rains a lot in the summer specially in June and July, making korean summers very humid and some places experience floods. It is the hottest weather in late July and early August when the temperatures range between 30 and 35 degrees centigrade, and many people go on summer vacations to escape the heat. People usually go camping or stay in the valley. It's not unusual to see cars parking under the bridge to have a picnic near the river or ponds.

In Autumn or Fall, specially in October, Koreas mountains are filled with the beauty of trees. They turned in different colors called dampoong. Then, in November, their leaves fall. While it differs by region, in winter the temperature goes down about minus 5 to 10 degrees centigrade and occasionally, there is heavy snow.

The hottest month of the year are July and August and the coldest are January and February. During this time, elementary, middle and high schools all have summer and winter vacation for almost two months. During vacations, some of them spend their vacations abroad.

Rain, Rain, Go Away

Rain, Rain, Go Away. It has been raining cats and dogs here since last night. Yesterday, hubby and I planned to go out but then it rained a lot. When we woke up this morning, we waited for the rain to stop but it didn't. So even when there was heavy rain, we still went out. We had nowhere to go. Besides, some roads that we passed by had floods so we just had lunch at the new restaurant that we saw on our way.

I hate rain. It scares me when my hubby drives and we can't see our way. Also, we live on the high floor of the building so I'm afraid of the lightning and thunder. And the worst? I don't like being wet because of the rain like what happened today. My skirt, sneakers and shoes were wet. I took off my socks in the restaurant. Of course I was shy but nobody saw me except my hubby. I put them under the table and wore again after meal.

Korean Weather

Last weekend, we went for a walk. It's great to take a walk when there are flowers everywhere. It was evening so there weren't many people. I told hubby that I wanted to pick some flowers. He was against before but this time he allowed me so I picked some and brought home. I put them in a glass and put vitamin C. I heard that flowers won't wither easily if you put some medicine in the water. I think so because I always do that whenever I put some flowers in a flower vase and the flowers don't wither easily. It's almost a week and they still look fresh.



It was just last week when I picked those flowers. It was just spring and now the weather is too hot. Today, the temperature reached 28 degrees centigrade and in some part of the country, it was over 30 degrees. At least we experienced spring even in just a very short time.

Buddha's Birthday

Every Eight Day of the Fourth Month by the Lunar Calendar, Koreans celebrate the Buddha's Birtday. This year, it was yesterday May 21st, Friday. So it was holiday yesterday. On this day, solemn rituals are held at Buddhist temples, and the day's festival is climaxed by a lantern parade. Before this day, you'll see the temples including the small ones, have many lanterns hanging on the near roads going to the temples.

I haven't seen or been to temples on this day so I don't know what people do on this day but today I invited hubby to visit the near temple located on the mountain but it was raining. On our way to the temple, we decided to visit my hubby's relative. We stayed in their house for a long time then we decided to dine out together so instead of going to the temple, we just spent time with my hubby's relatives. We couldn't visit the temple because of the rain but it was a lot of fun.

Where did Spring go?

Isn't it strange to see snow in April? I've been staying here for several years and I've never seen snow in April. This year is really strange because the weather is still cold. It's supposed to be spring now but it still feel like winter. Hubby and I were complaining about the cold weather last month and it's already the fourth month of the year but it's still cold. Where did Spring go? Spring is my favorite season and I really want to go on a picnic since last month but we couldn't because of the weather. And now my hubby is busy again so we can't go camping. I miss sleeping in a tent. Uhmmm...

Spring Rain

It usually rains now a days. In Korea there's what is called Beom Bi or Spring Rain. I hope it really is. It's already the third month of the year so I'm expecting for the Spring to come. It's not only because it's my favorite season but also I want for the winter to end. I hate winter. I think the cold weather is only for kids. You know kids love snowy weather but not olds. Snow is good but only the first snow specially for lovers.

The season changed

It's getting colder here everyday. Winter is coming again but of course fall will come first or I think it's already here. The leaves of the trees in my areas haven't changed in color yet but in some places like mountains have already changed in colors. I don't like cold weather but I waited for this season to come. Just because I wanna finish this year soon. My hubby and I have lots of plans next year and I'm longing for the year to come. Plans that were supposed to be done last year but because of economic crisis and money exchange rate, the plan changed. And now we can't just leave and go back to our plan easily because there are lots of things that we need to settle first. Next year is probably the right time. Let's see!
